Cassandra Ward Brown is an excellent litigator and trial lawyer.  She has been selected by law and politics as a 2005 “Rising Star,” an honor she also received in 2004, 2003 and 2000.  “Rising Stars” represent 3% of the lawyers licensed to practice in Minnesota.  She has also been nominated as a “Super Lawyer” for 2004.  Ms. Ward Brown is also a member of the Douglas K. Amdahl Inn of Court.  Ms. Ward Brown has defended an average of fifty cases at a time involving insurance and employment matters.  She has also assisted in the administration of a nationwide class action settlement.  Examples of the types of matters Ms. Ward Brown has handled include:

* Defense of numerous automobile accident matters involving injuries ranging from minor soft tissue injuries to major bodily impairments.

* Defense of numerous premises liability matters alleging negligence against defendant owners of single-family homes and condominium units.

* Defense of numerous contested property damage claims, including fire and storm losses.

* Numerous subrogation claims involving commercial defendants related to property damage, medical expenses, wage loss, and replacement service expenses.

* Defense of professional liability claims, including medical, legal, and accounting malpractice.

* Defense of employment and defamation actions.

* All cases were handled from commencement to resolution through motion practice, settlement negotiations, mediation or arbitration, and bench or jury trials.

Before she embarked on a legal career, Ms. Ward Brown was a Captain in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps.  She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University, a Master of Arts degree from Troy State University, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Minnesota Law School (1995).  Ms. Ward Brown was Executive Editor of and published in the Journal of Law & Inequality.  She was also President of the Black Law Students Association.  Ms. Ward Brown is an active member of the American Bar Association (Labor and Employment Law Section), National Bar Association (Commercial Law Section), Minnesota State Bar Association (Civil Litigation Section Governance Council), Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers, Minnesota Women Lawyers Association, the Hennepin County Bar Association, and the Black Women Lawyers Network.

Ms. Ward Brown has published several articles in scholarly journals and bar publications, one of which was cited by the Minnesota Supreme Court in a published opinion.  Topics of her articles include UCC Article 9 security, disability and leave laws, and Minnesota's anti-stalking statute.  She has served as a Commissioner and Hearing Officer for the Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights, and on the Executive Committee of the Minneapolis Empowerment Zone Governance Board.  Ms. Ward Brown serves on the Board of Directors of the Ivy Foundation and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
